If you are about to begin a child custody case, you need to familiarize yourself with the phrase “the best interests of the child.”

Almost every state determines child custody and parenting time issues based on the “best interests of the child” standard.

State statutes and case law define this standard differently, but in general there are certain factors and themes that appear in the majority of states.

In general, factors in the child custody analysis will include your relationship with your children and your spouse, who the primary caregiver was during your marriage, the length of time the child has lived in a stable, satisfactory environment and the desirability of maintaining continuity, the moral fitness of the parties involved, the home, school, and community record of the child, and any other factor considered by the court to be relevant to your family.

Mena Suvari’s ex wants her to pay up.

According to TMZ, Suvari’s ex-husband, Simone Sestito, has filed court docsrequesting $17,000 a month in spousal support.

Elsewhere in the docs, Sestito — a concert promoter — reportedly alleges that “American Reunion” actress makes $750,000 a year and says he’s used to eating out “almost everyday at high end restaurants,” listing his estimated monthly dining expenses at $3,000 a month.

Suvari, 33, filed to divorce Sestito in January 2012 after 18 months of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Suvari has sought to deny her ex spousal support, TMZ reported.

Yes, conventional wisdom can be right: teenagers should be in school. Not playing house. And marriage to a substance abuser is an uphill battle and you will never come first. Chances of divorce are pretty high.

With all of my family’s instability, it’s no wonder I gravitated toward the world of make believe and acting. I became a professional actress at the age of 14 and developed crushes on every father figure I encountered. And there were a lot of them.

Russell Brand has finally made his split from Katy Perry official…on Twitter.

Nearly five months after Brand filed divorce docs, the comedian has unfollowed his ex, “Access Hollywood” reported Sunday. Perry was quicker to unsubscribe from Brand’s @rustyrockets account, clicking the unfollow button in January — less than a month after Brand filed for divorce.

Brand’s latest move certainly doesn’t jibe with recent tabloid allegations that he’d sent the 27-year-old singer an “emotional email” in hopes of reconciling.

Without Perry, Brand — who counts an impressive 4.6 million users among his Twitter followers – is down to an exclusive 73 people on his “following” list, including his “Get Him to the Greek” co-star Jonah Hill, Alec Baldwin, Ellen DeGeneres and comedian Louis C.K.

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao was served divorce papers on the eve of his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez in November 2011, his trainer Freddie Roach disclosed on Thursday, May 10.

Quoting Roach, the Los Angeles Times said, “All the distractions caught up [with] Manny in his last fight,” referring to Pacquiao’s narrow win over Marquez. Pacquiao keeps a 54-3-2, 38 knockouts record. He is presently preparing for his next fight against Timothy Bradley on June 9.

Pacquiao, now a bible-quoting boxer, managed to save his marriage to his wife, Jinkee. Prior to his conversion, he led a frivolous life that included, according to Roach, “girls and everything that goes with it.” This, on top of late nights of gambling and excessive games of basketball.

“Now, he’s back with his wife, reading the Bible every day, and he’s given up basketball,” Roach told the LA Times at Hollywood’s Wild Card Boxing Club, where Pacquiao has resumed training after completing a round of intense workouts in Baguio City.

An Orthodox Jewish man from Queens allegedly tied up and beat his estranged son-in-law — and then forced him to recite the words for a rabbi-sanctioned divorce known as a “get.”

“There were four guys in black ski masks. They pulled me, and they started beating me,” said Robert Klein, 25, of Brooklyn. He said they also took his cellphone and credit card.

“They tied my hands and feet. blindfolded me, beat me and made me repeat, ‘I want to give a get, and I’m doing so willingly and freely,’ ” said Klein, who is in a bitter divorce battle with wife Reva in Queens Supreme Court. The couple split after 10 months of marriage
